CUTTING LIGHT SEAL FOAM STRIPS
| HINTS ON CUTTING LIGHT SEAL
FOAM |
|
|
It is vital that the
correct cutting tool be used and the best tool for this work is the
cheap snap off blade knife that can be purchased for pence in some
hardware stores. They usually come on a card of three or more and this
is useful to ensure that there is always a sharp blade to hand
|
|
When self adhesive
foam is to be used mark the piece to be cut on the back. If non
adhesive foam is to be used than mark the postion of the cut with a
strip of masking tape. |
|
With most materials it
is usual to cut the piece required from the main piece but in the case
of the foam it will be the other way round. Place the straight edge on
top of the piece to be cut and then cut away the main sheet. This keeps
the thin slice to be cut flat and allows a clean cut. Any mis cuts
being taken by the main sheet and not the piece you wish to use .Having
marked the foam as described above you will be able to see the line of
cut under the straight edge |
|
Although any
substantial straight edge will do it is safer to use a piece of
aluminium angle as shown as this will protect the fingers should the
knife slip. |
|
It is important that
as much of the cutting edge of the blade as possible comes into contact
with the foam. The picture shows the WRONG WAY to position the blade |
|
Extend the blade to
its full length and keeping as much as possible in contact with the
materials draw the blade firmly and slowly across the foam. This
picture shows the CORRECT WAY. |
