CAMERA LIGHT SEAL MATERIALS

A choice of ten various types & thickness of light seal and mirror cushion foams which have been found to be useful in various applications in the repair of cameras.

The 2mm thick self adhesive open cell foam and the self adhesive and non adhesive 3mm and 5mm open cell foam is the standard light seal used by camera manufacturers and is not generally available to the public.

The 2mm self adhesive open cell foam strip has a sealed top surface which makes cutting of this thickness easier otherwise it has the same properties as the  other open cell foams.

The more dense 1.5mm and 2mm thick closed cell foams in both self adhesive and plain format are used where a slightly firmer material is required for replacement light seal or mirror cushion. These foams are more easily cut into very thin strips.

The 1mm self adhesive felt is used for light seal on some cameras and also in film cassettes.

Some makes of camera have a special cotton seal about 1.5mm in diameter which runs in a groove around the perimeter of the camera body. This type of seal is not immediately obvious but if it deteriorates it can cause the film access door to rattle and fail to close firmly against the main body causing light leakage. This is easily replaced by the 1.5mm cotton seal available from this site.

Sheet materials come in three sizes 8x5 ( 203 x 127mm), 12x8 (304 x 203mm) and 12x12 (304 x 304mm) inches with the exception of the 2 mmm thick open cell foam which is supplied in 3/4" (19mm)wide strips.
